PERFORMANCE BAMBOO FLY RODS

ART X PERFORMANCE

New Arrivals
We understand your issues when buying a rod

Mass Produced "Soulless" Rods:

Most graphite rods on the market are mass-produced overseas and are "soulless." Yeah, they will catch fish, but will they connect you with the art and tradition of fly fishing, and evoke that nostalgia that only a bamboo rod can create?

Slow "Wet Noodle" Bamboo Rods:

Many bamboo rods are not made for performance - they are slow (i.e., very flexible), and because of that, they lack versatility and can only be used when fishing small, dry flies with little to no wind. While there is a time and a place for slower rods, rods need some level of versatility. Bamboo rods have unfairly earned the "wet noodles" title and a "weak" material. It all depends on how the rod is designed and built. Like glass and graphite, there are fast and slow action bamboo fly rods in many lenghts and line weights.

Expensive:

Many bamboo rods on the market sell for $3,500 plus. At this price point, they may be beautiful, but they will likely be nothing more than something to put on the mantle or in a presentation case.

Confusion:

Buying a rod can be extremely confusing - all acronyms, jargon, lines, reels, etc. How do you know you are getting a line and reel optimized for that rod?

A Performance Bamboo Rod from Ghost solves your problem

Performance with Soul:

Each Ghost Performance Bamboo Rod is hand-made in the USA with both classic and modern techniques and equipment, using the finest materials available.  Each rod takes about 40 hours to make.  Bottom line, Ghost rods are a piece of classic art that will perform as well, or better than the mass-produced graphite rods on the market.  Our rods are made to fish hard, in any weather conditions.

Versatility:

One of our rod designs recently placed first at the Catskill Demerest Bamboo Rod Challenge - the premier bamboo rod competition.

Unbeatable Value:

To be clear, Ghost rods are made to outperform other rods on the market. These rods are not meant for a presentation case or the mantle. They are intended to be fished with and made and priced accordingly. At Ghost, our goal is for everyone to experience the classic feel and graceful performance of a bamboo rod. Thus, you will find our rods are some of the most affordable bamboo rods on the market!

Clarity:

All rods come with line and reel recommendations for optimum performance and Center of Gravity and to eliminate the confusing process of purchasing line/reel to match rods.

What Customers are saying

Ed Chiles, FL, USA

Highly recommended!
Had the pleasure of purchasing a one piece and a two piece rod from Ghosts. I have fished a sage, RPL, and an Orvis Helios. My home water is on the Madison River. When I first saw these rods, I was incredibly impressed with how beautiful they are and the dedication to design and craftsmanship that was evident in the way they are built. Every aspect shows a tremendous amount of thought. The one piece is now my go to. Casts beautifully and so much fun to fight fish on. The fact that this recently developed rod won the Demarest fly rod building challenge speaks for itself. This is a piece of art that fishes better than any rod I have ever handled. It’s a rod you will want to pass on to your grandkids.
2022 DEMAREST CHALLENGE WINNER

The Catskill Fly Fishing Center situated in the birthplace of American dry fly fishing holds an annual rod making competition called the "Demarest Challenge” in honor of Charles Demarest who supplied bamboo for the cane rods during the golden age of bamboo rod making.

The 2022 Demarest Challenge winner was Jim Downes of Coburn, Pa. Jim is a renowned rod builder and personal mentor. I partnered with Jim on the design and building of the winning rod, beating 18 other entries.
